Collectibles

Porcelain doll parts are created by pouring liquid clay (slip) into plaster molds that have been created over the past 30 years offering thousands of different models. The parts are cleaned, then fired to 2800+ degrees over a 12-hour period for the transformation to porcelain bisque.  This “bisque” can be painted as is or glazed, then painted to create a glossy china finish.

The paint must be fired, depending on colors and decoration, ranging from 600 to 800 degrees over several hours to adhere, making the paint permanent.

Once all the porcelain parts are completed and painted, eyes are installed, wigs are attached and the parts are assembled to include the torso which can be made of fabric, composition, resign or leather.  Then the costuming can be created!

If you are interested in obtaining a custom piece but are not interested in the hands-on approach, Jennie is happy to work with you in identifying and executing the finished doll or figure.

An award-winning artist, doll making instructor, and workshop presenter, Jennie has been creating antique reproductions, portrait type dolls and figures for customers for over 25 years. The collection of available molds to choose from is extensive and ranges from doll house size to over 30 inches tall. Projects can be created for the seamstress who wants to finish and dress themselves, or they can be completed with custom costuming, all designed, and hand sewn using heirloom sewing techniques.
